The Resident Coordinator

The Resident Coordinator (RC) is the leader of the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and its role is to bring together the various UN agencies to improve the coherence and effectiveness of their action for development from the country. It plays a central role at the country level in coordinating United Nations operational activities in order to ensure that United Nations assistance is aligned with national development priorities and the demand for capacity building in accordance with the Treaties And development objectives.

The Resident Coordinator is the representative designated by the Secretary General, and responds to it through the UNDP Administrator in his capacity as President of the United Nations Development Group (UNDG). The Resident Coordinator is accredited by the Secretary-General, by letter, to the Head of State or Government and acts as their direct interlocutor. The RC acts, on behalf of the UN system, in an impartial manner by assuring a strategic position of the UN in each country. It supports and promotes the responsibilities of the United Nations in human rights and humanitarian law programming, including the responsibilities of United Nations entities and staff in this regard.

The Resident Coordinator prepares annually a report on his / her work and that of the country team entitled "Annual Report of the Resident Coordinator" which is submitted to the Secretary General of the Organization.

The current UNS Resident Coordinator in Cameroon is Mrs.Allegra Baiocchi. She took up her duties on July 18, 2017.

About Ms. Allegra Maria Del Pilar Baiocchi, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations system, UNDP Resident Representative, Humanitarian Coordinator in Cameroon

Ms. Allegra Baiocchi is the United Nations Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative for Cameroon, since July 18, 2017.

Prior to her appointment as the highest ranking United Nations official in Cameroon, Ms. Baiocchi held the position of Regional Representative for West and Central Africa for the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), based in Dakar, Senegal.

Ms. Baiocchi has held several positions within the United Nations, she has also worked in NGOs and academia. She has held several international postings, including in Burundi, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Senegal, Sudan and South Sudan and at the UN Secretariat Headquarter in New York.

An Italian and Venezuelan bi-national, Ms. Baiocchi holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and Development Economics from the University of Rome, Italy. She speaks French, Spanish and English.
